Fun and stylish are two words that sum up the Smart’s appeal and our electric conversion adds clean and very economical.

Designed to high standards with high quality construction (tight panel gaps and a fine finish) by Daimler Chrysler, who also make Mercedes Benz cars, the Smart is a very well built 2-seat car ideal for city driving and commuting. With its compact dimensions, it is the shortest production car you can buy, it is easy to park - you can even park in places other cars can’t!

The AVT Smart conversion is just like any conventional Smart to drive. The interior is almost unchanged apart from a slightly different display on the dashboard, the charge meter on the centre dash and the power switch by the ignition switch. The boot contains the charger and some batteries but still has space to carry light luggage. The main batteries, motor and control systems are all fitted beneath the Smart’s floor.

When the Smart brand was originally conceived, an electric version was considered but Mercedes Benz decided it would be too difficult to market and so it was never offered by Smart. Now AVT is able to offer the Smart EV conversion so you can have all the benefits of this compact city car and drive on low cost non-polluting electric power from just 1p per mile!

The AVT conversion can include the robotized semi automatic gearbox and offers top speeds up to around 60 mph. We can fit a choice of battery packs for different travel ranges; lithium ion or lead acid battery packs: The lithium ion pack normally allows you to drive between 60 and 100 miles; the lead acid battery pack between 20 and 40 miles.
